Renew Europe CoR at June plenary: launch of alliance for reconstruction of Ukraine, Green Budgeting and the Arctic

During the European Committee of the Regions June plenary our group discussed Ukraine with the launch of the European Alliance of Cities and Regions for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, the automotive regions alliance, as well as presented two reports; one on the implementation of green budgets at local and regional levels by Vincent Chauvet and one on the new EU Arctic strategy by Mirja Vehkaperä. Guy Verhofstadt MEP also intervened on the resolution on the results of the Conference on the Future of Europe and its follow-up.

SUMMARY 

That’s a wrap on the 150th CoR Plenary ! 
➡️ We said goodbye to the outgoing CoR President, Apostolos Tzitzikostas and congratulate the newly elected CoR President, Vasco Alves Cordeiro.
➡️ As part of the mid-term mandate renewal, we elected our new Group Presidency, Bureau & Coordinators.
➡️ Two Cor Opinions, authored by our members were adopted: “The New EU Arctic Strategy” by Mirja Vehkapera & “The Implementation of Green Budgets at Local and Regional Levels” by Vincent Chauvet.
➡️ Our members also contributed to several  other debates, such as during the presentation of the priorities of the incoming Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU, the follow-up to the Conference on the Future of Europe and launch of the European Alliance of Cities and Regions for the Reconstruction of Ukraine.
➡️ Last but not least, for the first time ever our Group Meeting was held jointly with Renew Europe in the European Parliament to foster closer cooperation and look where we can build Europe together.

THURSDAY

Anne Rudisuhli and Dietmar Brockes raised the issue of anti-Semitism at the plenary, with Rudisuhli supporting stronger educational aid for teachers:

Other members participated in the debate on the Czech Presidency and on the automotive alliance, such as Ulrika Landergren and Valter Drandic, or Dainis Turlais, on the launch of the Alliance for the Reconstruction of Ukraine: 

Vincent Chauvet presented his report on Green Budgeting, which is important for all governments in terms of democracy and the environment:  

Our President François Decoster also intervened in the debate with Guy Verhofstadt MEP on the Conference on the Future of Europe resolution and follow-up. Decoster argued that we need to continue to dare, to dare to invent new formula’s. It’s the Renew Europe family that initiated this innovative and unique formula for the Conference on the Future of Europe and now every EU institution needs to apply itself in the implementation of its recommendations. 

Wednesday

Mirja Vehkaperä presented her report on the EU’s Arctic strategy.
