François Decoster paying tribute to Jacques Delors

Renew Europe CoR President and Mayor of Saint-Omer François Decoster represented the European Committee of the Regions at the memorial for Jacques Delors, held in Paris on Friday 5 January.

Jacques Delors was the President of the European Commission that created the Single Market and the Economic and Monetary Union.

It was also under his presidency that the European Committee of the Regions was established and the CoR headquarters is named after him to honor his legacy.

François Decoster said:

“Jacques Delors’ legacy is immense and will continue to inspire us. His career as a trade unionist, and perhaps also his brief term as mayor, helped shape a method that resonates well with the members of the Committee of the Regions, and which he developed throughout his commitment to Europe: to advance Europe in the service of Europeans, through the construction of concerted decisions, born of exchange and based on unifying compromises. A certain idea of our Europe, so modern and so necessary in the face of the challenges of today and tomorrow.”
