About the Renew Europe COR Group:

The European Committee of the Regions (the CoR) is the EU institution that represents the Union’s nearly 90,000 regional and municipal authorities and their 1.2 million elected representatives. They are collectively responsible for 50% of all public investment in the EU and for implementing two thirds of EU laws. The CoR is a political assembly, and Renew Europe CoR represents the liberal and democrat subnational leaders who are dedicated to promoting in equal measure individual freedom and economic freedom, while ensuring the protection of the most vulnerable. A key part of our role is to bring to EU decision-makers knowledge of how the Union is functioning on the ground, as well as helping our nearly 100 full and alternate members and wider subnational networks to connect the Union with citizens.

Cicero Traineeship details:

  • 5 months
  • Full time / 40 hours per week
  • Workplace in Brussels, Belgium
  • Paid by grant (approx. 1360 euros/month)
  • Travel and mobility allowance
  • Health insurance cover optional

Qualifications:

  • EU citizens*
  • University graduates who have obtained a full undergraduate academic degree, or have completed at least the third year of higher education (university or equivalent), by the closing date for applications
  • Candidates who are fluent in one EU language and are fluent in either English or French with at least a strong working knowledge of the other

 

*Citizens from third countries (including the UK) can also apply, and may be selected in exceptional cases, notably if their candidature is of particular interest to the CoR and if they comply with the requirements under national immigration law for residing and working legally in Belgium.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and analysis on policy issues relevant to the Renew Europe Group’s priorities.
  • Gather evidence from a variety of sources of what is happening on the ground in Europe’s cities and regions.
  • Support the organization of events, meetings, and outreach activities.
  • Assist in drafting reports, briefings, and other communication materials on the implementation of EU legislation in Europe’s cities and regions.
  • Contribute to the social media/communications work and online promotion of the Group.
  • Monitor local elections and legislative developments to provide updates to the team.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including local and regional authorities, EU institutions, and civil society organizations.
