Happy Europe Day!

Today on May 9th, across the European Union, we celebrate Europe Day, a day dedicated to the ideals of peace and unity that underpin the European project. As the world faces growing challenges and increasing attacks on European unity, the spirit of collaboration and solidarity embodied by the European Union is more vital than ever.

Across the continent, celebrations are taking place, highlighting the diversity and richness of European culture. From concerts and festivals to debates and discussions, citizens are coming together to mark this important day. Adding to the excitement, at the invitation of Mayor Samo Turel, we’ve joined the festivities in Nova Gorica, Slovenia, the 2025 European Capital of Culture. This city truly embodies the collaborative spirit of Europe, sharing its prestigious title with neighboring Gorizia in Italy. Together, they stand as the first-ever European Borderless Capital of Culture, a powerful testament to cross-border cooperation and the unifying power of culture.

“We have started the empowerment of people, that really want to work together. The main change that I wish to happen, that already is happening, is that the concept of borders will be forgotten. We will live cherishing the past and history, while looking forward and promoting how united we now are.” – Samo Turel, Mayor of Nova Gorica

The Renew Europe Group joins citizens across Europe in celebrating the achievements of our Union. From fostering peace and economic cooperation to promoting cultural exchange, the EU has been a beacon of progress and stability. On this Europe Day, we reaffirm our commitment to strengthening the European project, ensuring it remains a force for good in a rapidly changing world. We encourage everyone to take part in Europe Day festivities and to reflect on the importance of European unity and peace. Let us all mobilize and celebrate the European spirit!
