Liberals governing in dozen EU capitals

With the recent election of Mārtiņš Staķis in Riga, liberals are now at the helm of a dozen EU capital cities or seats of government

Staķis joins eleven other liberals who are either Mayors of a EU capital city or are deputy Mayors in a coalition. Staķis is motivated to bring profound change: “This means at Riga, where corruption is no longer possible, and where the work is being done properly. A city that is dynamically developing and offers modern solutions in all areas – from attracting investment to planning traffic infrastructure and ending with the reduction of queues in kindergartens. We have been elected because we are expected to do practical work for the benefit of the people of Riga”.

As Mayors, liberals currently govern the capital cities of Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius, Luxembourg, The Hague (seat of government), Bratislava with our member Matus Vallo and Bucharest (supported by USR-PLUS).

As Deputy Mayors in a coalition, liberals are governing in Madrid, Budapest, Stockholm, Warsaw, Copenhagen and Vienna.

Renew Europe CoR is looking forward to involve these Mayors in our Liberal Mayors Network and Liberal Mayors Summit. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting will take place online in the second half of November.
